Confessions of a ‘Green’ Bride

Posted by ecoadmin in Green Event Planning, Living Green

A few years ago, I was talking with a friend about a new roller coaster at Magic Mountain in Ventura, California.  We spent a few minutes discussing all of the twists, turns, and flips of the new ride making it scarier than any of its predecessors, and then I asked him, “but seriously, what was it like?” He replied, “I’m considering pressing charges, but that was the coolest thing I have ever done in my life.”  This is what your wedding day is like…

Unlike a lot of women, I was never the girl who spent her childhood planning every detail of her wedding.  Instead of relating to the Betty Draper’s (well, now Betty Francis) of the world, I resemble some sort of hybrid between Liz Lemon and Carrie Bradshaw.  I spent the better part of my 20’s building my career, working long hours, networking, and fine-tuning the ways I define myself.  I believe taking care of our environment is a responsibility we all have to take seriously, but I believe it can be done with grace, style, and a whole lot of flare.

As I realized that my life was about to be turned upside down with my nuptials I began to focus on what was important to me…or should I say important to “us”.  With all the excitement I wanted to devise a plan to say “I do” in a way that defined who we were as a couple while maintaining a level of creativity and commitment to the world in which we live.

I wrote this entry to help brides like me create the green wedding of their dreams without a lot of confusion, hassle, and stress that often comes with an event such as this. As you continue your planning trust me, you will hear plenty of advice (mostly unsolicited) and horror stories will be coming at you in every direction.   Do not let this discourage you or throw you off track, this is your day and you deserve to have it be everything you want it to be.

If you are reading this, it is safe to say you are interested in an eco-friendly wedding.  Going green is easier than you think it would be – all it takes is some imagination and attention to detail when doing things like inviting your guests, buying your dress, and putting the plans in motion for your big day!

Take a deep breath and continue to be stoked, you are about to do one of the coolest things in your life!  And if you have any questions, or would like a little creative help, I am only an email away.  Please feel free to get a hold of me if you get stuck, I love to help with ideas for weddings, so if you have questions or need help, send me an email erin@ecogeekboutique.com!
